چکیده

Results Increased paraspinal muscular activity at convex side of scoliotic curve is well known and documented finding. Main directions of research are related to structural changes in muscles and regulation of muscular contractility. In most cases the myopathic changes are considered as the consequence of the postural deformity. Very little information is available on the mechanisms by which such an imbalance could take place.

Serial Case Reporting Yoga for Idiopathic and Degenerative Scoliosis

BACKGROUND Non-surgical techniques for treating scoliosis frequently focus on realigning the spine, typically by muscular relaxation or muscular or ligamentous stretching. However, such treatments, which include physical therapeutic, chiropractic, and bracing techniques, are inconsistently supported by current evidence. In this study, we assess the possible benefits of asymmetrical strengthenin...

Muscle imbalance in the aetiology of scoliosis.

At the apex of an idiopathic scoliotic curve there is a greater proportion of "slow twitch" muscle fibres in multifidus on the convex as compared to the concave side. To determine whether this represents a primary muscular imbalance relevant to the aetiology of idiopathic scoliosis or merely a secondary change, the lengths of multifidus on opposite sides of the curve were measured. Multifidus i...

The relation between electromyography and growth velocity of the spine in the evaluation of curve progression in idiopathic scoliosis.

STUDY DESIGN A prospective study in which patients with idiopathic scoliosis were examined longitudinally by radiographic and electromyographic measurements according to a protocol. OBJECTIVES To measure the growth velocity of the spine and the electromyographic ratio of the paraspinal muscles to determine their relation to progression of the scoliotic curve. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Seve...

Magnetic resonance imaging of the erector spinae muscles in Duchenne muscular dystrophy: implication for scoliotic deformities

BACKGROUND In Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), the muscular degeneration often leads to the development of scoliosis. Our objective was to investigate how anatomical changes in back muscles can lead to scoliosis. Muscular volume and the level of fat infiltration in those muscles were thus evaluated, in non-scoliotic, pre-scoliotic and scoliotic patients. The overlying skin thickness over the ...

فعالیت عضلات ارکتوراسپاینا هنگام استراحت در وضعیت های مختلف در بیماران مبتلا به اسکولیوز نوجوانی ناشناخته

Background & Aims:  Scoliosis is linked with asymmetrical compression loads induced by trunk muscles and external loads. The objective of this study was to measure the electrical activity of bilateral erector spinae muscles during the rest in the standing, sitting and lying positions. Materials & Methods: Ten patients with double curvature (right thoracic and left lumbar) scoliosis...
